Using Flockboss With a Class Field Trip

This is one of many ways you can use Flockboss.com to share birdwatching experiences with classmates:

Ms. Finch’s class at Flicker Elementary is planning a field trip to the nearby ‘Ucello Nature Preserve’ to look for birds. Each of the kids has chosen a target bird to look for on the field trip. As part of the preparation for the trip, Ms. Finch has had each of the students join Flockboss and make a member id based on her/his target bird name. Ms. Finch creates a flock named ‘finchflock’ with all the students’ id’s in it. Before the trip, Ms. Finch gives the students the following assignment:

PRE-CLASS ASSIGNMENT for Ms. Finch’s 4th Grade Class

  1. Log in to Flockboss.com
  2. On the View Trip Reports page, list all the trips that have been reported at Ucello Nature Preserve in the past month and answer these questions:
    • Did anyone report your target bird? When was the first and last report date?
    • How many species have been reported at Ucello Nature Preserve in the past month?

After the field trip, the students get the following assignment:

FIELD TRIP ASSIGNMENT for Trip to Ucello Nature Preserve

  2. Make a new trip report listing the birds you found on the trip.
    • In the comments field, note whether you saw your target bird. Also list 3 interesting things you saw on the trip. Report any other observations you want to report.
